In America, actresses like Zooey Deschanel and Scarlett Johansson release records along with movies. In France, there’s the same tradition–only these Parisian songbirds keep getting nominated for César, the French version of the Oscars. You’ve already met examples like Vanessa Paradis and Soko. Now here’s the next singer-starlet in line, Izïa Higelin.
Her first studio album dropped in 2009, and the 19-year-old was compared to Janis Joplin. Then came major tours and music festivals, along with fashion credits from Stella McCartney and Surface 2 Air. And last year, Higelin scored a César nod for her performance in Mauvais Fille (“Sad Girl”) alongside French film legend Carole Bouquet.
See Izïa in the music video for “Let Me Alone” — a collaboration with the French knitwear label Petit Bateau — and head to her website to preview her new song, “So Much Trouble.” (Warning: A snake is involved.)
