Last month, Claire Courtin-Clarins took us to the MoMA PS1 for Cyprien Gaillard's first American show. This weekend, we went back to the experimental art space for an exclusive first-look at James Franco's new piece, Bird S***.
Based on the Anton Chekhov classic The Seagull, the performance art piece combined dialogue from the play with modern dance, punk rock music, and video projections starring Franco and the famous artist Marina Abromovic. Performers wore billowing white pants and dresses, while feathers fell down from the sky-- Spring Breakers, this was not.
And while the themes of the piece--fame, artistic merit, and loneliness-- are universal, this particular piece of art is not. In fact, it was a one-day only affair.
Fortunately, we have photographs of the event for posterity. Enjoy.
