In America, actresses like Zooey Deschanel and Scarlett Johansson release records along with movies. In France, there's the same tradition--only these Parisian songbirds keep getting nominated for César, the French version of the Oscars. You've already met examples like Vanessa Paradis and Soko. Now here's the next singer-starlet in line, Izïa Higelin.
Her first studio album dropped in 2009, and the 19-year-old was compared to Janis Joplin. Then came major tours and music festivals, along with fashion credits from Stella McCartney and Surface 2 Air. And last year, Higelin scored a César nod for her performance in Mauvais Fille ("Sad Girl") alongside French film legend Carole Bouquet.
See Izïa in the music video for "Let Me Alone" -- a collaboration with the French knitwear label Petit Bateau -- and head to her website to preview her new song, "So Much Trouble." (Warning: A snake is involved.)
